Why Green Lava?

I have been asked, “Why GreenLava? How did you come up with that? What does it mean?”

It actually is a pretty serendipitous story.

When trying to determine what to call my coaching practice as well as this blog, I was looking for a name that had a certain meaning. I wanted a name that embodied my vision and what I wanted to share with my readers and clients.

I wanted something that symbolizes transformation, growth, strength and abundance. I started researching the terms that were important to me. I got really excited when I came up with the perfect name: The Green Lotus. I then researched the availability of the name both as a domain name and as a business entity. I was naive to think that it would not be taken! Of course the domain name was in use!

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that was probably a good thing. Isn’t “lotus” overused as it is?

In having a conversation with a friend, he suggested using “lava” in some fashion. I started researching the symbolism of lava. In dream interpretation, lava suggests that good things will happen and there will be happy events in your life. It can also mean that you will take a big risk and you will overcome difficulties and be successful. And if you think about lava, it is constantly moving, flowing and transforming and then solidifies to form a hard surface, a foundation.

“Lava” definitely fit what I was trying to relay. I loved the meaning behind it: the idea of good things to come and transformation. So Lava it was.

I decided to still use “green” as what it represents – abundance, growth, revival – are all values that are important to me.

A green lava volcano

I got excited about the name and happened to google it to make sure it was not taken. In the process I discovered that there really is such a thing as Green Lava! Who knew?

In my excitement (yes, I can be that cheesy!), I texted my husband. He started doing research on what exactly is Green Lava. What he found, made the name even more perfect for me!

Green Lava is found in Hawaii’s Kilauea island in the form of green crystals called olivine. They can turn the beaches green. Olivine, when found in discrete lumps, is what jewelers call peridot.

For those of you who are not up to speed on gems, peridot happens to be the birthstone for August.

AND August is my birth month!

Once I learned that I knew that I had found the name for my blog and my coaching business!
